MAY 2010

Finally the winter weather is over, and we are soaking up the sun! After this winter, we are due this welcome break in
the weather. I can’t remember a winter that has caused such aggravation in quite some time. Hopefully, this will be the last for awhile.

Essie and her gang did another fantastic job on the Children’s Easter Egg Hunt/Party and Mother Nature cooperated with a beautiful day for this event. While I am mentioning Essie, I can’t forget the Regional Soccer shoot we hosted again this year. This event went off again and everyone was extremely impressed with the Carlisle Elks. I have received numerous thank you notes about this event. It grew by one state this year, and still we managed to pull it off and made it look easy! Ernie and Jenny deserve a big round also for putting together the Friday night pizza party for the families at the Hotel. I need to thank Kim and her kitchen staff for all their hard work to feed all the hungry people. Cheap Sneakers made their annual appearance at the Carlisle Elks in April. It was another great night of dancing and partying. I believe everyone had a great time. Thank you to all who volunteered and helped out, came out, and supported this event.

During the month of May, Vic and I will be traveling to Seven Springs for the PA State Convention. There will be more to report after the Convention. On May 18th, we will be initiating another large (20+) class into our Order. If you are a new member or one who hasn’t attended an initiation lately, I urge you to attend and renew your pledge to Elkdom. Sunday June 6th will be our annual Family picnic held at the Eagles picnic grounds. Come out and enjoy the day with your family and fellowship with your Brother and Sister Elks. Essie and her gang always do a great job with this picnic. After last year’s event, hopefully the dunk tank will not be part of the fun!

Saturday June 12th is our annual Flag Day Celebration. If you have never attended one of our Flag Day Ceremonies, it is well worth your time. Russ Sutton and his volunteers do a great job and put together what I believe is one of the best Celebrations you will see in the observance of our Country’s Flag. Just a reminder, the Lounge will be closed during this Celebration and will reopen upon its completion. Well, it’s time to think Chicken BBQ’s along with the Golf Tournaments. Keep an eye on the future Hi Bills and around the Lounge for information about both.

Thanks to Nate Herrington for stepping up and volunteering to be the Lecturing Knight and Tracy for taking over the duties of the Lodge Secretary. Without people like you, this Lodge would not exist. There are still vacancies that need filled; Inner Guard, Tiler and Chaplain. If you would like to contribute to this great Lodge and fill one of these empty offices, let me know.

Congratulations to award winners for the 2009 – 2010 Lodge year. Ernie Shank was awarded the Officer of the Year! Caryn Beitler was awarded the Elk of the Year! Jim Eads was awarded Citizen of the Year and Harry Moeller also received a Citizenship Award. Keep up the good work guys! On April 9th we celebrated 110 years of Carlisle Elks history by throwing ourselves a 110th anniversary party! What a great night of fellowship! Some of our older members donated memorabilia for us to display for the event. Thanks to everyone who came out and enjoyed the evening of dancing and partying.

Don’t forget that we always have a lot of exciting events happening in the Lodge and Lounge; continue your support of these events. Come out and attend the Lodge meetings to show your support of the Officers you have chosen. Remember we are only as strong as our Officers and Members make us.

Fraternally,
